Summary:

The CFD Combustion Engineer will work within our existing CFD team to perform CFD analysis on coal, gas, oil and biomass-fired utility and industrial boilers in order to evaluate combustion system performance (flame length, CO emissions, NOx emissions, carbon in ash levels) with a view to implementing operational or equipment modifications to gain improvements.

RJM utilises the Fluent CFD code, along with in-house developed additional functionality.

Specific responsibilities:

• Field data analysis to determine CFD process inputs
• Boiler and burner geometry analysis to construct CFD model geometry and mesh
• Fuel chemical property assessment and provide advise on additional tests to be undertaken.  This may involve development of new test processes and procedures
• Provide advice on additional plant data required and plant test procedures
• Run CFD models, analyse and present results to the project team
• Identify and present potential improvements to the combustion system to improve performance; implement agreed improvements in the CFD model, analyse and present data
• Produce reports for the Company’s clients, and present CFD findings to the Company’s clients
• Support RJM business development and sales activities as required
• Partake in site testing campaigns on site as required
• Performs hands on diagnostic testing, start-up, and optimisation of systems which may require extensive time in the field
• Prepares proposals, presentations and pricing for sales opportunities
• Negotiates and reviews new contracts with customers as required

Work Location:

Winchester, UK
Travel: Up to 50% to domestic and international locations

Hours: Generally, 8.30am – 17.30pm, 5 days per week, with occasional extra hours as necessary

Holiday: 25 days annual leave

Knowledge, Skills and Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor / Master’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• 5 or more years related CFD experience, preferably in the combustion engineering field
• Technical knowledge and experience of combustion and emissions technology and systems and related processes
• Strong computer skills including demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft products
• Ability to communicate with engineers and managers at all levels

Desirable:

• PhD in a closely related field
• Proficiency in programming languages (Python, C/C++, FLUENT UDF)
• Experienced using other CFD software e.g. Star CCM+, OpenFoam
• Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux OS
