RJM rolls out its CleanAir Burners beyond Beijing

RJM International, has won two new NOx reduction projects in China at the Linhua Mountain Resort in Jinan, Shandong and at Xinjiang in north-west China.

At the Linhua Mountain Resort, 400kms south of Beijing, a 70MWth district heating plant that fired coal slurry has been converted to fire natural gas through the application of RJM ultra-low NOx CleanAir Burners™, an upgrade that will also deliver a further 10MWth of output.

This project builds on the successful relationship established last year between RJM, its local agent HKL Global and a Chinese boiler company. HKL Global is providing the gas train and controls and RJM is providing the UK-manufactured burner and acting as engineering consultant for the FGR (Flue Gas Recirculation) system. This new district heating plant installation will deliver a much-reduced NOx value of 30mg/Nm³.

At Changji City Agricultural Exhibition Park, in Xinjiang, (pictured), an autonomous territory 3,000kms west of Beijing, another RJM ultra-low NOx CleanAir Burner™ has been installed on a newly-built 45MWth district heating scheme boiler, again to reduce NOx down to 30mg/Nm³.

Commenting on these new wins, John Goldring, Managing Director of RJM International said, “Having developed a versatile and modular range of our ultra-low NOx gas burners to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the China Clean Air Act, I am delighted that with 35 successful installations now completed in Beijing, our agent HKL Global is now winning new projects for us beyond the capital.

RJM wins major new Engineering Project at Ince Bio Power
Bioenergy Infrastructure Group, owner and operator of Ince Bio Power, an Energy from Waste gasifier unit firing 170,000 tonnes of waste wood per annum, has just appointed RJM to implement the 1st Phase of Engineering to further optimise plant load and reliability. RJM has been working at the site since 2020 and has already carried out a number of plant performance improvement projects, including the addition of an Over-Fired Flue Gas Recirculation system. As a result of this major engineering project, generation campaign durations have increased by a factor of four and shut-downs to remove the (now) much smaller volumes of ash materials can be achieved in a single shift, rather than taking three or four days. Commenting on the new engineering project, Mark Roberts, Head of Engineering at BIG said, “We have worked closely with RJM on several projects at Ince and at its sister site, Energy Works Hull and we look forward to achieving further performance improvements following this latest Phase 1 Engineering Project and beyond”. A key feature of the project will be the installation of our new IMPULSE® Cleaning System which will significantly reduce the formation of fouling on the convective surfaces. RJM demonstrates its expertise in Waste to Energy
RJM has just demonstrated its fuels and combustion expertise at Operational Optimisation, a national Biomass & Waste to Energy Conference in Aston, Birmingham. Guy Sharp, Senior Project Manager at RJM gave the presentation which focused on how understanding the feedstock is a vital first stage to improving combustion performance and how fuel switching can have dramatic consequences if due diligence on the new fuel is not carried out first. As RJM is currently working at 13 biomass and Waste to Energy sites in the UK, Guy used the occasion to present some of RJM’s recent case studies where RJM has successfully implemented changes to improve plant utilisation, efficient operations and plant reliability. Commenting on the event Guy said, “I found it very useful – there was clearly a lot of knowledge in the room and the format and organisation was really well thought out and executed.” With an audience of plant managers and technical experts, RJM plans to take part in this event next.
RJM recruiting for Industrial Placement Year 2023 / 2024
RJM International is one of the world’s leading providers of combustion efficiency and emissions reduction technologies for thermal-fired plant and is currently recruiting for several Industrial Placement Year students for Project Engineer roles, working with RJM’s team of engineers, designers, CFD specialists and project managers. The students should be keen to build a career in the Power and Energy Sector. RJM’s industrial placements offer invaluable experience of how an engineering organisation operates. You will be offered the opportunity to rotate through different departments including process engineering, business development and project management. If you have a particular interest in CFD or 3D modelling / engineering drawing, there is the opportunity to work within those teams and develop your skills to an industry level. An engineering placement with RJM offers the opportunity to: • Work with experienced engineers on real company projects to deliver innovative engineering solutions to clients. • Interact with different engineering disciplines, roles and levels of the company. • Accompany senior team members on site visits and sales trips, potentially abroad. • Receive mentoring and professional development from experienced engineers. Located at the Winchester Head Office, the placement will run for 12 months. RJM grows its presence in Asia-Pacific
RJM International, the award-winning provider of innovative combustion improvement and emissions reduction technologies and equipment to the power generation and large combustion plant sectors worldwide, announces today that it has completed the first stage of expanding its operations in the Asia-Pacific region by registering a new operating company in Malaysia. The new company, RJM Malaysia SDN. BHD, has been set up to enable the growing number of RJM projects in Malaysia to be managed more effectively via a local office, which will be set up in the capital Kuala Lumpur and manned by an international team of RJM employees, including several Malaysian nationals. RJM has been steadily growing its business in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, with major long-term performance upgrade projects still ongoing in Hong Kong and Vietnam, as well as a pollution-busting programme of new RJM ultra-low NOx CleanAirBurners™ retrofitted to district heating plants throughout Beijing. In Malaysia, RJM has recently won new assignments at a number of power generation sites operated by different owners, providing significant business growth opportunities.
